A little bit of randomness

Hello again! How are you? Perhaps like me your days have been feeling a little misaligned? … Every day lately has been feeling like a Thursday to me – there’s that certain kind of feeling in the air, like the weekend has almost arrived. Sadly this often ends in disappointment when I discover that it’s actually a Tuesday, a Wednesday, or worse still – a Monday. Happy am I that the much anticipated Thursday has finally arrived … let’s make it a great one!

There’s not too much to report from my part of the world – things have been madly busy, so as usual I’m running more behind than ever. The upcoming Easter break is never too far from my mind (even if I am thinking of filling it with some home renovations) … In other lovely news, the very elegant and eloquent Hila has recently bestowed upon me the ‘versatile blogger award’ (thanks so much Hila).

Ampersands ... you've just got to love them

The ‘rules’ of the award are to share seven facts about myself and pass the award on to some other worthy recipients. For those of you who would like to play along, I tag: Gabrielle, Krystal, Bobbi, Caz, Debby, Kylie, Katie and Lenorenevermore. Here’s my seven (somewhat random) facts:

  1. Since I was about 13, I’ve kept the ticket stub for every movie I’ve gone to see at the cinema.
  2. Even though I changed my last name when I got married, my initials have stayed the same.
  3. I have a ‘thing’ for ampersands, there’s just something wonderful about all those intersecting shapes.
  4. While I love sweet food, I really don’t trust muffins. I mean, aren’t they just cakes in disguise?
  5. I like completeness, and this is probably why I tend to be a collector of things.
  6. I will always choose Batman over Superman.
  7. When playing Monopoly, I must be the little dog piece (otherwise there will be tears).

Hopefully you enjoyed those little bits of factual randomness (sometimes it’s hard to think up things I haven’t already told you about) … Anyway my dears, I wish you a wonderful day and I hope it contains at least a little randomnessΒ (in all the best kinds of ways).

  1. lenore*

Thank you for including me, Tracey!
& so true ampersand, something about its shape & symbolism…

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Lenore – You’re most welcome! I think you know how much I enjoy visiting your blog (I’ll be catching up with you over there soon). I’m glad to know another ampersand lover … they are a delight for the eyes I think.

  2. ejorpin

I love that your surname has changed but your initials haven’t – it’s like defying the laws of physics in some strange bizzaro world or something, hurrah!

ps. I have no idea what day of the week it is most of the time. You get used to it after awhile, but it does mean that I am obsessive about checking my planner to see what important stuff I was meant to do yesterday.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Emily – Having a change of name without a change of initials does seem to fly in the face of a number of accepted scientific laws … I wonder how many other people have had the same thing happen to them? πŸ™‚

It’s so easy to lose track of the date or even the day of the week … especially when things have been busy – sometimes the days just all blend together. It definitely pays to be organised – but for me I always seem to find myself a few days behind on things … on such occasions I just apply the ‘better late than never’ rule! πŸ˜‰

  3. Gabrielle Bryden

Thanks Tracey πŸ™‚ I must have the little dog in Monopoly too – haha (and always keep the tickets from shows that I go to – so that I remember what I have done with my life – got a terrible memory I have). Muffins are definitely suspect but I prefer Superman to Batman (he doesn’t have enough powers for me πŸ˜‰ ).

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Gabrielle – You’re very welcome … it’s always a pleasure to read your blog (and of course, your poetry). πŸ™‚
Haha, I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves the little dog in Monopoly … and yes, beyond keeping tickets of movies I go to, I also keep tickets for theatre and concerts I go along too … I need a little jump start for my memory too! πŸ™‚

Ohh … that’s an interesting reason to prefer Superman! Batman is all dark and moody … and rich! Haha … I’d probably just corrupt the sweet Clark Kent! Haha! πŸ˜‰

  4. Debby

I love ampersands too… especially the word….I like any excuse to use it…in fact I was actually using the very same word in conversation last night regarding a web address…..doesn’t it just roll off the tongue?

Thanks for tagging me Tracey….it will be fun to play along. It might take me a little while to sort out my randomness but I’ll get there eventually….

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Debby – Ampersands are wonderful things … they have a beautiful natural shape about them. And YES! I love the word ‘ampersand’ too … it’s one of those words that falls off the tongue very pleasantly! πŸ™‚
I tend to get obsessed with certain words, and that’s definitely one of them! πŸ™‚

You’re very welcome for the tag … sometimes I find these memes provide a bit of light-hearted material for our blogs … I know it can be a challenge to work out just what facts to share though. I’ll catch up with your blog soon … I’m so dreadfully behind on everything at the moment.

  5. fairchildstreet

So cute. I love the little dog in monopoly. You are a collector aren’t you. Thanks for sharing. :-)) Charmaine

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Charmaine – Haha … the little dog has always been my favourite in Monopoly, though I pity any one that plays against me who ALSO likes the dog! πŸ˜‰

I do like collecting things … though I’m trying my best to limit how much I collect (a constant challenge I think).
Take care my dear – I shall pop by your blog place soon.

  6. belinda/gretchenmist

that’s funny not trusting muffins!! can understand that ~ am sure lots of them are as naughty as cake while they ‘claim’ to be healthier! unless u make them yourself and edit the sugar/butter thing. good luck catching up on things πŸ™‚

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Belinda – I’m really just not too sure about muffins … though there are some lovely examples of them. I seem to recall a comedian talking about how they’re just ‘cake at breakfast’ … though you’re right, they can be a little bit healthier when homemade.

Thanks for the good luck in catching up on things, I’m slowly getting there now … but I’m still horribly far behind for the moment. I hope you’ve been well!! πŸ˜€

  7. Sandrine

Hi Tracey, hope Friday puts a smile on your dial!
Thanks for sharing those interesting random facts about yourself. You amaze me with the tickets collection!!!
    Sandrine x

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Sandrine – Fridays are always the best day of any week … though the last few weeks have been a little more all over the place than usual. I think I just need to work at breaking through the busy times and focus on doing one thing at a time (it’s the only way to actually make any progress).

I’m glad you liked my little bits of randomness … one day I shall have to pull out my movie ticket collection and just see how many I have! πŸ™‚

  8. Krystal/Village

aww, thank you so much for tagging me!!! your monopoly dog one made me laugh πŸ™‚ i always want the car!

    1. Lee Sargent

See the car makes sense to me, you are traveling around town, collecting rent and what not, how’s an iron or a top hat going to get you anywhere and frankly a battleship is pure overkill.

      Go the car!!

      1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Lee – Oh, that’s a good point about the car … but the doggy is soooo cute (how could you resist!!). I wonder how they decided on which pieces to include in the game? πŸ™‚

    2. tracey (Post author)

Hi Krystal – You’re welcome!! Sorry I’ve been so slack in catching up with your blog … I’m attacking my google reader after I catch up on comments … things have seemed a little too hectic lately. It’s nice to know you go for the car in Monopoly – that means we’d be able to play together, as we’re not after the same things!! πŸ˜€

  9. Rol

Good. I never trust anyone who chooses Superman over Batman.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Rol – Haha! Have no fear, in my world it will always be Batman and not Superman who wins. πŸ™‚

  10. Mel

I have no clue what day it is most of the time. This is unfortunate because my routine varies quite a lot depending on the day….

Today is blog catch up day, I know that! So in response to your earlier post, too: I love rings, but wearing them makes eczema flare up on my fingers πŸ™ I can wear a very narrow wedding band that’s slightly too big for me, and even that can make my finger sore at times; all other finger jewellery is out for me, sadly! Love yours though πŸ™‚

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Mel – I wish I could keep better track of my days … I tend to find that week days tend to blend themselves together, and yes – that can be inconvenient when you’re supposed to be doing certain things on certain days … thank goodness for diaries and appointment reminders! πŸ™‚

I’m doing my best to catch up on blogs and comments this weekend … it didn’t quite happen for me last week.
Oh that’s a shame about wearing rings … at least it means you can focus your attention on other types of jewellery!! I’m glad you like my rings … I really should stop treating myself to more pretty things! πŸ˜‰

  11. Fourth Daughter

Wow, you must have a LOT of movie stubs! I’ve kept a diary since I was in grade 2… sort of similar thing, I suppose. Once you’ve started that sort of thing, it’s impossible to stop!

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Fourth Daughter – I sure do, I’m going to have to figure out just how many movie stubs I have one day … they’re kind of split up amongst a few different ‘memory boxes’ I have about the place … I wonder what other treasures I’ll find in doing that? πŸ˜‰

Keeping a diary is a wonderful thing to do … especially seeing as you’ve kept one for such a long time. I’ve always meant to keep a better journal of my days, but can never quite commit long term. I suppose blogging can do a similar kind of thing for me? πŸ™‚

Thanks for tagging me Tracey. I’ll get onto it as soon as I can (school holidays!).

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Caz – You’re very welcome for the tag … there’s no hurry at all to respond to it, but I’d love to see what you come up with if you do. I’ll catch up with your blog soon – I’m currently running way behind on my online catch-ups.
      I hope you’re well.

  14. Linda @ Heartfire At Home

I LOVE ampersands… I have some cushions at home which I love, and one at work, which have ampersands on them!

And, I completely trust muffins. Anything related to cake is good in my book!!

Definitely Batman over Superman, anyday. And, always the little dog when playing Monopoly for me too!!! Although, if someone snags it first, the boot comes in second.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Linda – I’m glad you’re an ampersand lover too … they have such beautiful shapes.
I think I know the ampersand cushions you’re talking about, I’ve been eyeing them off myself for a while now … I can think of nothing better to surround myself with! πŸ™‚

I’ve had a few nice muffins over the years, but I think I prefer cake and biscuits to a muffin … just one of those things I guess! πŸ˜‰

I’m happy to see you agree on the Batman and the little dog front … haha! πŸ˜‰
(and I go for the boot as my second option too!).
