A snake in the year of the rabbit

Are you a believer in star signs and astrology? I’m not a follower of horoscopes, but I’ve sometimes found them to be a bit of fun, and every once in a while I can see a few glimpses of myself within the words. Being a woodland lover, I’m pretty happy that according to the Chinese zodiac, 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit … surely that’s got to be a good sign?

Apparently most rabbit years are quiet, positive and inspiring … I think we could all do with a little more of those things in our lives.

While I’ve never taken horoscopes too seriously, I’ve always known what star sign I am (Scorpio), and I also know that I’m a ‘Snake’ under the Chinese zodiac. Reading about the personalities of both Scorpios and Snakes, I can certainly see a lot of me in their descriptions … you may just discover more about me too!

After doing a bit of research, the Year of the Rabbit will apparently be a pretty good year for the Snake. There are hints at creative work opportunities becoming a focus (yes please!), a healthy increase in my bank balance (this will be appreciated by all my travel plans), and home decorating is on the agenda too (I’ll be kicking off my first renovation project soon).

How’s the year shaping up for you? More importantly, what zodiac animals are you?

PS. Do you like my new ‘bunny’ dress? (I think it’s rather charming).

  1. Susana

Oh, that bunny dress looks lovely. They all look extremely happy whether jumping on the grass or facing their loved ones.

I have read and learned about astrology, and although I enjoy following the horoscopes, I don’t take them too seriously of course. I am a Sagittarius and a Horse, so that fits particularly well in terms of deriving from the same animal! Apparently, “In 2011, the focus for the Horse will be on his career, with unexpected developments and promotional opportunities on the cards” so it should be interesting.

Hi Susana – Thanks so much. I’m very glad you like the bunny dress too … now I just need a warm day on which to wear it (we’ve had some really cool weather here the last few days).

Oh being a Sagittarius and a Horse does indeed sound like a particularly fortuitous combination … I think the only connections I can make between my two animals of snake and scorpion is that they are both commonly land dwellers and both start with an ‘s’. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Your hear ahead sounds interesting indeed … unexpected developments and promotional opportunities sound very promising! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. fairchildstreet

hmm I am a sagittarius snake. Will have to look into it a bit more the year of the rabbit might be a good year.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Charmaine – Another double ‘s’ person!?! (you being sagittarius and snake, and myself being scorpio and snake) – how lovely … Hello there fellow snake! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I sense there is a lot of good for us all this year … surely the year of the rabbit will be wonderful for us all? (after all, rabbits are lovely creatures).

  3. Gabrielle Bryden

Taurus in the year of the Horse! The bunny dress is gorgeous ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Gabrielle – Oh I’m a very big fan of lovely Taureans (my husband is a Taurus after all). ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love horses … I’ve always been rather envious of anyone born under a ‘cute and furry’ animal year, but I’m starting to come around to the whole snake idea.

PS. I’m so glad you like the bunny dress! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. gracia

“Quiet, positive and inspiring”… very nice attributes. Here’s to more people embracing the quiet side of things, being bright, and always inspired by new sights.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Gracia – I agree … there should be more quietness and brightness in the world. I think such things are forgotten at time in this busy world we live.

Being inspired by seeing the new in the every day is something I am trying to do much more of … the world around us is such an amazing place.

  5. Caz

Ah, another Scorpio! We have three Scorpios in our little family – myself, my partner and our little girl – so you can imagine that things get a bit intense here at times!! Our little boy is a beauty-loving, easy-going Libran who must think the rest of us are quite mad…

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Caz – Wow! You really do have a lot of scorpios to deal with in your family … I can most definitely imagine that things can get more than a little intense and dare I say, ‘tense’ at times too? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wonder how your little Libran copes with all that deep scorpio energy swirling about him? (he has my sympathies … haha). I’m sure he brings a wonderful sense of calm and lightness to your lives.

  6. Galit

I’m not a believer in signs and astrology at all although I had a nice suprise lately with book I’ve found at our local library and was titled “I can tell you your dream job” (or something like that). It immidietly made me smile and as I’m really interested to find my dream job, I’ve borrowed it. It is totally not my type of books but somehow I managed to read it cover to cover and it suprised me with great new finidings about myself that made it actually simplier and maybe possible to identify my strenghtes and therefor my dream job.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, I still don’t believe in it and can’t recall when was the last time I’ve read my horoscope, but I’m sure not against it as before.
My zodiac sign is Aries and my Chinese sign is Ox.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Galit – What a delightful little book you stumbled upon at the library … I’d love to find out what my dream job is supposed to be too. How wonderful that it was able to provide you with some insights and thought-provoking reflections … I’m not big on ‘self help’ books, but ‘self reflection’ is always something I can do with a bit of a push on from time to time. I trust you’re feeling a little closer to snaring that dream job? ๐Ÿ™‚

Horoscopes have always been a bit of fun for me, and I don’t ever see myself becoming a true believer … like you, I can’t recall the last time I read my horoscope … in younger days I think I used to read them in magazines quite regularly … thank goodness I’m older and wiser now! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Being an Aries and an Ox sounds like a really interesting combination. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Fourth Daughter

As I think you know, I’m a rabbit, and also a Pisces… no wonder I hate conflict, love creative stuff, am crap at business and am hopeless at speaking or doing anything in front of an audience (that catwalk show was a major challenge!). That fabric in the dress is definitely Japanese – did you know that the Japanese have a legend about a rabbit living on the moon and pounding sticky rice to make cakes?

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Fourth Daughter – Yes indeed, I remember you’re a rabbit (it’s so wonderful that this is YOUR year!). A rabbit and a pisces – looks like you have both the land and the sea covered in your horoscope. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gosh, you don’t know what ‘hopeless’ at speaking or ‘performing’ in front of an audience is until you’ve seen what I get up too! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (honestly, I’m a bit of a shy ‘bunny’ and a rather rampant blusher given the opportunity … oh, and I also talk to quickly when I’m nervous). Haha!

Isn’t the dress fabric divine, yes it does have Japanese heritage … makes it all the more sweeter I think.

I have vaguely heard about the Japanese legend of the rabbit living on the moon … but I haven’t before heard the part about ‘pounding sticky rice to make cakes’ … I shall head off to do a little reading on that. Thanks for telling me! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. bobbi

I’m a pig. I should be okay with rabbits. We’re both farm animals.I just hope our farmers are vegetarians.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Bobbi – Yes, as a farm animal one is completely reliant on the kindness and vegetarian lifestyle of the farmer … I think well looked after pigs must have rather wonderful lives – all that food and mud to roll about it, surely that would be at least a little relaxing? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. katiecrackernuts

Tee hee. The bunny dress is cute, though in some circles I’m not sure I’d be bragging about my bunny outfit. ๐Ÿ™‚
Now, you flatter me … “talented”, “clever”, “on all the best invite lists”. Are you sure you’re reading the right blog?
    You are a doll.
I am a tiger. I lived in Vietnam in 2000 and people would ask and then step out of my way. In the end I refrained from telling people, especially men. I just pretended I didn’t know, and told them in Western horoscopes, I am a fish.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Katie – I’m glad you like my bunny dress … but oh my, you’re so right about that whole ‘other side’ to bunny outfits … haha! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (I didn’t even think of that)

The flattery I offer is all just the truth my dear … ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s rather fabulous that you’re a tiger …. how fascinating that it was a bit of an issue in Vietnam … sometimes we forget the cultural importance that horoscopes can play. So very intriguing.

  10. Narnie

I am so jealous of your wardrobe – I have one – just one – that I reckon you would like and it hangs in my wardrobe waiting for the perfect day (do you do that too?) The year so far has been pretty disastrous but then, the only way is up? I hope so ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Kiersty – Fear not, there are lots of worrisome pieces hanging in my wardrobe that are simply not fit for viewing! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m very much like you with some of my clothes – I’m waiting for the ‘perfect’ day to arrive so that I can wear them out and about … I really should just pick ‘any day’, but it seems to be a difficult barrier to overcome.

The year has been rather mad already, but hopefully by the time that March comes around (which isn’t too far away now), things will be looking and feeling a little brighter and more wonderful.

      Take care my dear.

  11. belinda/gretchenmist

    i love your dress {is the fabric japanese??}
    i have 2 little scorpios here! i like scorpios ~ especially how there’s no mucking around . . .
i take an interest now and again, and like to know the characteristics rather than following the predictions. that said, cainer predicted a huge event in my life including all the details surrounding it that he mentioned! your prediction sounds perfect.
    am a piggy aries ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Belinda – Thanks so much, I’m glad you like my dress. I do believe the fabric is Japanese (it’s made by a local Brisbane boutique, Maiocchi who do all sorts of lovely creations).

Two scorpios!?! Wowee … that must be interesting at times, though I know what you mean about there being no mucking around. Sometimes my husband finds my directness or bluntness a little unnerving, but who am I to argue with the stars? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think I’m like you with the horoscopes – I like to know the ‘characteristics rather than following the predictions’ … that sums up exactly how I feel about them. Oh a prediction which included details is pretty incredible isn’t it? I don’t think I’ve had an experience like that myself.

A ram and a pig? … interesting. I’m jealous that your horoscopes animals walk about on four legs, unlike mine! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Ricardo

I’m an aries which is the ram right? To celebrate this, I will smash my head into beer cans.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Ricardo – Yep, that makes you a ram for sure!
Though I hope you don’t hurt your head with all that head smashing! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Megan

I do like your bunny dress, and I also love your new blog look! Fabulous! I am a woodland lover myself from waaaay back in my childhood. Don’t think that’s ever going to change. My chinese zodiac sign is the Rooster (although I had to look it up because I had forgotten!) Never really been a horoscopes follower, perhaps because I never see any traits that fit me in the desciptions of my sign, Leo.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Megan – Thanks so much! I’m glad you like my dress … bunnies are just such wonderful creatures, I never can resist them! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m glad you like the new blog look too … it feels very much like a brand new home for me. I don’t think my woodland obsession is ever going to change either … but I’m also completely OK with that! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve always been surprised to see much of myself in my zodiac ‘animals’ … but it’s interesting to see you haven’t had that experience … maybe you’re one of those ‘cusp’ animals that sit closer to another sign? ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Hayley Cafarella

TEEHEE!! All I could think while reading that part about the year of the rabbit being good for snakes was “Makes sense, snakes probably eat rabbits” (thanks, brain)

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Hayley – Haha … I love how the brain makes obvious observations like that … they often tend to be a little left of centre! ๐Ÿ˜‰
