The A B C’s of a perfect day

What are the ingredients for your perfect day? On a recent day largely spent at home, I got to thinking about a few of the things that bring beauty and joy to my day (I think you all know me well enough my now to know that coffee is just a given).

A is for … ART

Do I already own a lot of art? (definitely) … Do I always want more art? (most definitely) … I find it very hard to resist lovely artistic creations, especially when they provide such wonderful inspiration and beauty. At least my most recent art addition won’t take up too much room. Measuring just one inch square, these original ‘tinies’ by Allison Sommers are delightful – if you ever thought owning an original painting was out of your financial reach, then think again (these are just $10). I’ve made the sweet ‘Velvet Dog’ mine.

B is for … BOOKS

Sure, not all of these are technically books, but they are all currently in my printed reading pile, so that’s good enough a classification for me. I can’t imagine life without books, my only complaint is not finding more time in my day to devote to reading (a writer who doesn’t read, is no writer at all). I generally like having a mix of things ‘on the go’ at any one time – so you’ll normally find me working my way through at least one magazine, one novel and one non-fiction book.

C is for … COLOUR

There I was, feeling a bit ‘blah’ about the world … so I figured maybe I should just make myself some lunch (because I’m pretty sure good food fixes most things). This is one of my favourite weekend lunches – plain salty crackers topped with sliced cheese and avocado (it’s simple and delicious). Pairing my yellow and green meal with a sparkling pink grapefruit drink … well then, I felt better already. It was then that I realised it wasn’t so much the food that swept my ‘blahness’ away, it was the magic of that bright colour combination.

Of course there are many more things that can make any day perfect, but this seems like a pretty good start. Perhaps I should work my way through the whole alphabet in such fashion?

How about you? What are your A B C’s for a perfect day?

  1. Erika Lee Sears

      Hi Erika – I love your ABC’s too! šŸ™‚
      Your whole world must be surrounded by art … and blue has long been a favourite colour of mine too.
      Coffee is just the best … nothing works as well to both calm and energise me (which is an odd sort of contrast).

  2. Gabrielle Bryden

    That looks like my type of snack – the way food looks is very important (they’ve done many research studies on the topic).
    A = animals
    B = blogging
    C = calm

      Hi Gabrielle – I agree that the way food looks is so very important … I’ll only make the rare exception for one of my lentil dhal recipes which doesn’t look so great, but I love it so! šŸ™‚

      Oh yes, your ABCs are a delight – you know how I feel about animals and blogging … and calmness is a wonderful thing to include in a perfect day (I just need to perfect the art of that last one).

  3. louise

    I like your abc very much. A = animals is an excellent one too, I think I’d have to go for that with C = creativity and B = books… oh but that leaves out coffee… I’ll have to have take that as a given as well. xolj

      Hi Louise – I’m glad you like my ABC, though I must say that your selection is lovely too. Animals are wonderful and I can’t imagine not having them in each of my days … and yes creativity is a definite necessity. Haha, yes that coffee is a tricky beast … I think I would do most anything to justify including it as a daily need.

  4. hila

    I like your abc šŸ™‚ I couldn’t agree more, although I may occasionally have to change ‘c’ to ‘coffee’.

    1. tracey (Post author)

      Hi Hila – There are so many ABC’s that are wonderful, it’s so hard to narrow them down … but yes, where would any of us be without coffee? (I know I wouldn’t get very far in my day).

  5. Sonia

    Pink grapefruit drink is a very happy colour and those avo smiles are cheerful too!
    I will check out Allison Somers now – cute idea making small art!

    1. tracey (Post author)

      Hi Sonia – I’m not a big lover of grapefruit in traditional fruit form, but I agree that this lovely pink drink is happiness indeed! šŸ™‚

      I didn’t notice the avocado ‘smiles’ until you mentioned them … how lovely! That will put an extra shot of special into our weekend lunches.

      I agree, making tiny art is a really cute and really clever idea! šŸ™‚

    lovely post šŸ™‚ i need gabrielle’s ABC too.

      Hi Camila – Oh, thanks so much for the twitter follow (I’m following you too). xx
      I love your ABCs of a perfect day. Airmail is always special … and yes, beauty is a definite essential. Given that I love food a lot, cooking really should be on my list too … but I just haven’t had enough time to dedicate to it of late.

  8. gracia

    What could top your deighttful ABC. I’d change very little. Just C for Coffee.

    1. tracey (Post author)

      Hi Gracia – I’m glad you enjoyed my ABCs … it seems that many of us consider coffee to a be a loyal friend, and an essential part of our day! šŸ™‚
