Modern Day Hunters & Gatherers

Why hello there! How does this day find you? I do hope you have wonderful things planned. I’ve been doing my very best to avoid the heat and humidity that’s currently hanging about, but of course there’s always time for a little online indulgence …

Because I’m currently growing my hair, I’ve started to become a little obsessed with finding the right kind of hair accessories. More specifically I’m looking for the kind that both look nice and also stop me from going completely mad at that awkward ‘in-between’ growth stage. Add to that my already rather large obsession with bows, and well I’m sure you can see where this is going …

Heading over to etsy (seriously what did I even DO in the time before etsy?), I went on a mission to find some lovely bow hair clips. Not that I’m at all fussy (haha), but I didn’t want any that were too big, too small, or too plain to blend in with my dark brunette coloured hair. Before too long I discovered the lovely shop, ‘I am a hunter‘ (who produce beautiful items under the Hunter Gatherer label).

While I managed to limit myself to just these two hair clips, in their store you’ll also find lots of other bow goodies (like rings), and some sweet woodland inspired jewellery … I had to work really hard to avert my eyes from the delightful ‘woodland friend‘ cards (although I think they may just have to form part of my next purchase). Did you also happen to notice their tag line? ‘Hunter Gatherer … thinks you are quite lovely‘ … isn’t that just so very sweet?

Finally I have found the perfect place where my woodland animal and bow obsessions can very stylishly and very happily co-exist. It’s also rather nice to know that non-lethal forms of hunting and gathering are still a part of the modern world.

How about you? Have you ‘hunted and gathered’ something wonderful recently?

Very sweet – the eternal search to find a hair clip that will keep hair up when you are growing it. In the same boat….

Hi Jennie – I know! Now that my hair has well and truly entered that really annoying growing phase, I’m more keen then ever to find as many lovely hair clips as I can. Best of luck with your hairstyling too! 🙂

    adore the mustard bow!!

i have been “hunting and gathering” things for many other people but not myself! I need to get myself something nice – maybe a bow 🙂

Hi Alyssa – I agree, the mustard bow is particularly divine!! (I’m on a bit of a yellow bender at the moment).
Hunting and gathering for other people can certainly be fun … but it’s always nice to treat oneself from time to time too. I hope you’ve found something lovely just for YOU! 🙂

Hi Camilla – Oh yes, that squirrel necklace is just divine. I could spend a whole lot of time and money in that store! 🙂

Not nothing this year. Perhaps I need to had a bit of zing to the new year. Tomorrow I am thinking of buying some beads to make a nice necklace. I do have a gift voucher to spend at Myer and Borders that also might suffice for hunter and gathering but not really special. I am so over the big stores where everything is the same. Charmaine

Hi Charmaine – Oh buying yourself some beads to make a nice necklace sounds pretty wonderful. Did you end up making it? (I’m running a little behind on things here).

I do love a good gift voucher (or two!) – they offer the perfect way to spoil without any of the guilt of using any of your own money … the best of both worlds really. I always use gift cards to buy something wanted yet somewhat impractical, instead of buying something that’s necessarily ‘needed’.

I agree, I get a bit sick of chain stores where everything looks the same and so consequently everyone ends up looking the same too … I much prefer unique creations.

My favourite accessories store had a five for £5 sale. I got five pairs of gloves – three quarter length ones, fingerless mittons, furry ones, stripy ones and some beautiful red ones which are just like extra wooly sleeves. I now have far too many gloves, which makes me feel very happy. I wish I could wear hair accessories… for some reason, it all goes wrong when I try 🙁

Hi Kiersty – I will always maintain that you are the absolute Queen of finding bargain accessories … I can’t believe you scored five pairs of gloves for such a bargain!!?!?! Remind me to get some shopping tips from you. 🙂

Having too many gloves is a happy problem to have … I wish it was cold enough here to indulge in them more often.
Perhaps your hair just objects to being tamed by hair accessories and secretly just wants you to buy more gloves? 😉

Lovely bows! I’m always on the hunt for perfect hair accessories, bows and headbands and cute pins. I just bought a new headband with a bow on it in English plaid.

Hi Katie – They are rather lovely bows aren’t they? I wish I could buy more of them, but I’m really trying to be good with saving money.

I adore headbands too … but seem to have less luck finding decent styles. Perhaps I’m just too fussy?
The headband you bought yourself sounds wonderful (I love plaid fabrics).

I LOVE YOU! How did you happen to know that I am looking for some new costume jewellery and hair accessories on account of all of mine are getting very old? You’re making this really easy 🙂 xx

Hi Hayley – Oh my, you are so very sweet! 😀
Thanks for your lovely words … I’m so very happy to help you with some ideas for future jewellery and hair accesssories purchases … sorry if I’m too much of an enabler! 😉
I desperately needed to pay some attention to my old bits and pieces too … and there’s nothing quite like some jewellery purchases to treat oneself! 🙂
