Spoonfuls of happiness …

Even though I already have a pile of unread magazines rather impatiently waiting for me on my desk (they’re keeping a close watch on me right now), I never can resist the lure of more lovely printed words. Books are wonderful life companions, but sometimes something shorter and sweeter is nice too.

Have you come across the delightful ‘Spoonful‘ before? It’s one publication I’ve been meaning to read for ages – and considering it’s already up to Issue 3, I’ve certainly taken my time in getting around to it (better late than never!).

Described as ‘a happiness companion’, Spoonful provides a little collection of thoughts, poems and stories to inspire and uplift – an especially lovely way to end a busy and stressful working day.Β Much like a ‘spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’, this ‘spoonful of writing helps the happiness stick around’. After all, it’s a proven scientific fact that reading is good for your health.

Given that there are three issues of Spoonful currently available, I thought it would be appropriate to share three little things that have provided me with happiness this week:

  1. Eating the first delicious meal cooked on our new BBQ (vegetarian of course)
  2. Finding some lovely things to send to some dear friends
  3. Enjoying the earthy fragrance of my new shampoo

Have you had a happy week? What’s been something to make you smile or get your heart feeling all warm and fuzzy?

  1. Sophie

Ohhh I love it when you find a good smelling shampoo! Hooray! I have spoonful no 2. and it is lovely! *s*

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Sophie – I agree with the delight to be found in a good smelling shampoo … I tend to chop and change my preferences every once in a while.

Spoonful is lovely … I’m having fun reading through the happiness and inspirations.

  2. Sonia

I’ve not heard of these books, I’ll probably stumble across them next time I’m in a bookstore, and will think of you. I’m feeling warm and fuzzy with our brand new green turf. It’s a delight for my eyes and the feet! It’s the simple things.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Sonia – Oh I do hope you stumble across Spoonful … it’s a really lovely little publication, full to the brim with happy thoughts and wonderful energy. How lovely your comments are! πŸ™‚

Feeling warm and fuzzy about your brand new turf is fantastic! There’s nothing quite like the look of it, or the wonderful feel of it beneath the toes … I often think the simple things in life often offer the most complex enjoyments.

  3. bobbi

I think I am having the greatest time in my life. Honestly. I am happy like I have never been before, and most important, I am finally proud of myself and at ease with who I am. It was about time!!
    Have a great weekend!!

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Bobbi – I’m so very happy for you Bobbi! It’s so fantastic that you’re realising your dreams (you’re an absolute inspiration to me on that front, and of course on many others).

You have every reason to feel proud of yourself and all that you’ve achieved. It’s so very wonderful that you’re also at ease with who you are … I’m almost at the point, but not quite yet.

The weekend was good, but just far too short (haha) … I hope the weather has been a little warmer for you in your part of the world.

  4. Linda from Heartfire At Home

I came across Spoonful a little while ago and thought what a nice present it would make for some of my friends and my mum (and of course myself!!). I’d forgotten about it though, so must take another look. At the moment I’m happy to be looking forward to the school year starting with my new grade….. I’ve spent the last 2 weeks every day except one in my classroom decorating it and getting all my curriculum ready…. so I’m well and truly prepared!

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Linda – Spoonful would most definitely be a lovely gift … it’s a sweet little publication and is best shared amongst many I think! πŸ™‚

Looking forward to the school year ahead – now that’s exciting!! How wonderful that you’ve been busy decorating your classroom and getting everything ready … I bet the children will appreciate all your hard work!! πŸ˜€

  5. Makeminemid-century

I love the smell of great shampoo … what a ridiculous word ‘shampoo’ … certainly doesn’t sound nice.

    What shampoo doo yoo yoose?

    Just coorious.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Makeminemid-century – I too am rather fond of the fragrance of good shampoo … but you’re right, who even came up with the word ‘shampoo’? It’s an odd one! πŸ˜‰

As for what shampoo I use … it’s Trilogy ‘Clean + Balance’ Shampoo and Conditioner … I adore their other products and so thought I’d give their hair products a go. The last shampoo I bought from the hairdresser was about nine colours of awful! πŸ˜‰

      Trilogy to the rescue!! πŸ˜€

  6. Krystal/Village

Those book covers are just so PRETTY.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Krystal – I know, the covers are rather lovely … sometimes judging a book by its cover pays off! πŸ˜‰

  7. Andrew

    Hi Tracey,

What beauitful covers they have. I love it when I’m inspired and seek out positive influences and sounds like you’ve found three!

Vegetarian BBQ’s rock!!! Both myself and my wonderful better half are vegetarians also. It is great to know (even you are the other side of the world) another vegetarian couple. πŸ™‚

“Books are wonderful life companions”…absolutely agree.

    All the best

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Andrew – I think the covers are lovely too … they perfectly capture the beautiful words and images which are contained within. You are fantastic at seeing the positives Andrew! πŸ™‚

Vegetarian BBQs are SOOOO good … Lee and I actually fried up some more delicious mushrooms for dinner tonight … they tasted amazing!! How lovely to know another vegetarian couple – The recipes you share on your blog are always so tempting and delicious!! πŸ™‚

Books and words are so very important … it’s not just for the things they can teach us, I think it’s also about the way they make us feel.

      Have a great day! πŸ™‚

  8. Thea

Thanks for all your feedback. I hope you do try the foot stool project and share it with us. Have a nice week. x

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Thea – I loved your foot stool makeover, the fabric you chose was perfect … I’m going to have to get out and about to the op shops sometime soon and find one to remodel myself! πŸ™‚

  9. Gabrielle

Sounds like a wonderful publication – I will check it out. One spoonful for me was getting the kiddliewinks back to school and having them enjoy their first week (they don’t always you know!). Another was having lunch with my husband without the kids – haha. Another was enjoying Australia Day with my whole family.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Gabrielle – Getting the kids back to school and having them enjoy their first week sounds like a very big spoonful of happiness to me! I know that I didn’t always enjoy my return to school after holidays … I hope they both have a great year! πŸ™‚

Enjoying a lunch with your husband sounds equally lovely, and yes Australia Day is always a nice relaxing day (I know I enjoyed the mid-week break) … your three spoonfuls of happiness are a delight! πŸ™‚

  10. Narnie

I’m pretty easy to please. I take such immense pleasure in a coffee and almond croissant in my local coffee shop, with my notebook and pen. Bumping into a friend unexpectedly and my eldest daughter taking such pleasure from her birthday made it a very good week too. And I think you’re happy things are pretty wonderful. At the moment I’m using vanilla shower cream (the bottle has a ditsy poem on the side) and that makes me happy every morning.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Kiersty – I like to think that I’m pretty easy to please too (though perhaps people that know me well would think otherwise … haha!).

A coffee and an almond croissant at your local shop sounds delightful … and when it is joined by the company of a notebook and pen, well that delight is made perfect! I love randomly bumping into people on the street … and how wonderful your daughter had a wonderful birthday – a lot of lovely happy spoonfuls! πŸ™‚

Oh your vanilla shower cream sounds wonderful (I love the fragrance of vanilla) – that’s a lovely way to start a day.

  11. Narnie

    you’re / your… tsk. It’s been a long day.

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Kiersty – Haha, I hate making spelling and grammatical mistakes too … πŸ™‚

  12. Mel

Never heard of it before, but how much do I love the covers?!

    1. tracey (Post author)

Hi Mel – The covers of Spoonful are delightful for sure … and the pages within are lovely too! πŸ™‚
