For the love of Don Draper (& other Mad Men).

It wouldn’t be too inaccurate a statement to say that I pretty much adore everything about this show. Apart from providing a fascinating insight into the world during the 1960s, Mad Men delivers consistently interesting plots played out by a fine cast of actors.

The visual authenticity of the show is achieved through a combination of impeccable costuming and set designs which are styled to absolute perfection. Everything looks right, and when scenes come to life with the presence of the actors, everything feels right.

Vanity Fair - Mad Men

I heard about this beautiful Vanity Fair editorial (The Ultimate Mad Men Summer-Break Album) some time ago, but only recently managed to find it within the September 2009 issue. The photographs are quite simply stunning! Despite the madness that seems to be Annie Leibovitz’s life, I absolutely adore her photography.

The photographs accompany a great article about the show’s creator Matthew Weiner, and the casting of Jon Hamm and January Jones as Don and Betty Draper.

If I was forced to choose a favourite character, it would be an easy answer for me – Don Draper would be the winner of such a contest. I love him for so many reasons, but perhaps this could best be said as, ‘I love him for the man that he almost is’.

Anyway, I just felt the need to share these beautiful images. Perhaps you’re a fan of the show yourself, or perhaps you adore finely styled photography… either way, I hope you enjoy!

PS. I’m laying much blame at the feet of Mad Men for my recent re-discovery and love of all things that are ‘the dress’…a happy curse to be burdened with indeed…

Hi Marita – So glad you liked the photos… As you can tell I completely fell in love with them myself.

I need to restyle my life. You are the best guide I know, by far.

Hi Paul – Oh dear sir, you are too kind…thanks for providing such unwarranted (but gratefully received) flattery… 8)

This is one seriously stylish show that has caused me to reassess how completely un-stylish I truly am… πŸ˜‰

Beautiful images, I well agree. And I have a tiny confession to air… I do believe I may be the only person yet to both see Mad Men and then fall under spell. Shall perhaps make haste to curl up with it as a lazy summer treat… one episode at a glorious time.

Hi Gracia – I’m sure you’re not alone in not having seen Mad Men. I’ve only recently caught up myself and that’s quite a happy situation to have been in. There’s nothing quite so nice as knowing there are lots of episodes ahead of you, so that when any cliff-hanger moments appear, you always have the next episode waiting for you without delay.

I think it can take a little while to get used to the pacing of the show, but once you do… oh my goodness, you’ll be spellbound indeed! πŸ˜‰

Very Hollywood photos – wonderful. I haven’t heard of the show before… I shall look out for it. πŸ™‚

Hi Narnie – Mad Men is a wonderful show, if you do manage to catch it sometime I’d love to know what you think. There is something quite magical about looking at the past through the fresh eyes of the characters who are experiencing events as they happen…

With all the trash on TV it’s nice to see a quality show like this getting a good run and attention. I brings me hope that TV hasn’t entirely gone down the tubs.

Hi Ricardo – I agree. There are so many dodgy TV shows around, sometimes the quality shows can fall through the cracks. Thankfully Mad Men seems to have built up quite a following of fans… I’m hanging out for next season already!!

Hi Harmonie – Her photos are wonderful for sure!! I think you’re right, it is the ‘energy’ which Annie is able to capture on film that creates such magical images… 8)
