The comfort of light within the darkness.

Sometimes the most comforting sight to be found at the end of a long journey, a long day, or a long life is simply a splash of light which falls across your path. Whether that light comes from the warm shades thrown outwards from a setting sun…

Sunset

Or light flickering downwards from two lonely stars a lifetime away to remind us of the grand immensity of the universe…

Stars

Or a solitary light shining through a house window, signifying the presence of life within…

Window

Regardless of the source of light, our response is always the same.

We feel a pleasant awareness of all that surrounds us with a lifting of the soul and the singing of the heart. In that one moment we know with absolute certainty that no matter where we are, we are home.

Hi Paul – Oh thank you! I love the contrast of lightness and darkness, and the safety which can be found at different times within one or the other.

It’s amazing how the light can call to us, it always seems an especially strong ‘pull’ when we are on a lonely journey.

  5. I was gazing out through the bedroom window around 2am this morning and I was very dark. I noticed that the eucalypt leaves were actually shimmering with light. I thought that kind of description was reserved for fantastic imaginations, but no. The light was actually dancing from out of the leaves. Not a reflection of moonlight but some kind of chemical reaction to it. I don’t know what that means but it was comforting.

Hi Brad – Oh your words are lovely. It’s nice to know that even in the dark times of early morning, light still finds a way to captivate and comfort us. Perhaps those wonderful Eucalypt trees look over us all as we sleep… I’m sure they have some sort of strange and wonderful mysticism about them…
